This summer we started something new in the Adkins home. We are doing chore charts. All 3 boys have 2 charts. One is for weekly chores and one is for daily chores. There are simple things like getting dressed and making their beds each morning and then bigger things like cleaning the closet (which can't seem to stay neat and clean), sweeping the back steps and the front porch and even picking up sticks in the yard. Below Eli is "struggling" to get his socks on.
He's really only "struggling" because there is an audience and there is nothing beter to do. It's amazing how quickly he can get his shoes and socks on when he is going outside to play.
My real reason for posting is another "chore". We have put on their chart that they will each have a morning devotion time. It has been fun to watch them sit down with their Bibles and read from God's Word. Then they also have a prayer time.
Eli can't read yet, so the older 2 take turns (every other day) reading his devotion to him and leading him in prayer.
These prayer times bring tears to my eyes. Here Nathaniel is leading Eli, by saying the prayer and having Eli repeat after him. What a wonderful example they are, what a blessing to see.
We have struggled a little bit with Ronnie. He is too big for the little kid Bibles, but not quite ready for the big ones either. We started the summer off with the Day by Day Kids Bible, but follwing the date we started in Isaiah, which was a little difficult for him to understand. We moved ahead a month and read in Daniel.
The "chore Chart" has so far been a fun thing for them. They enjoy getting stickers and seeing who can completely their activities first each day. I'm just thankful that they are learning responsibility and learning to spending time daily with Jesus.

We are still working out all the kinks. I don't want this to be something that the boys "have" to do, but rather something they enjoy doing. I want them to develop a habit now that will follow them into adulthood. I want them to desire to spend time with God each day and reading His word. So we're begining to have this devotion time.
