Out of Control

In my devotional time this morning I saw the passage in Genesis chapter 11 in a different way. It is the story of the tower of Babel and I have read it many times before. However this time I looked at it a little different.

In this Genesis passage, the survivors of the flood shared one language and worked together, by doing this they began to build a tower to heaven. Sounds good, right. But their motives were wrong. Their desire was to make a name for themselves, so that they could say, we have our life under control.

God had other plans. He confused their language, not because God is a God of confusion or because He didn't want them to cooperate but because God wanted to be God in their lives.

He wants to be God. He wants to have the Control. When we are gripping the controls of our own life and dictating every detail, can we really expect God to just go along with it?

I think in a way we are to live lives that are out of control. Only when we are out of control can God be in control! That's hard for those personality types that like to have things all planned out and figured out! I like to know what is going to happen and be prepared. God's saying, let me figure it out. Trust me to take control and lead you where I want you to go and do.

That's what I want. A life that God is in control of, not one that I control and allow God to be a part of!
