Vacation in the South

2010 was the year of vacations -not really, but for the first time in 2010 we took a week long vacation with Ron's parent's in Ohio and then we ended the year with a week in Gulf Shores, Alabama! It was perfect! Ron and I had been to Gulf Shores and loved it when we were first married. We went several times during the first couple of years of marriage, but 10 1/2 and 4 kids later, we were finally back! It was GREAT!

The last picture I took in Ohio was of the kids playing in the snow with their snow shovels. Then 2 days later they are on the white sand beaches of Gulf Shores - Gotta Love that! I'll share LOTS of pictures to show you how wonderful our time was there. (It will take me a couple of posts, but I'm sure by the end you will be wishing you could go too!)

I haven't been to too many oceans or beaches, but I'm told that Gulf Shores has the bluest water and whitest sand.

Look how calm that water is.
Just to set your mind at ease, Ron and I did NOT inherit any money recently, but we did get a fabulous gift from my parents this year. Dad rented the 4th house from the left in this picture below...

It was actually the left side of the house and the picture above shows how much beach we had. My parents, my brothers family and us spent the week together in this beach side house.
Ronnie specifically was all questions as we traveled down to Alabama. "Dad, will there be enough sand to play in?" was one question we loved! When we arrived, Ron asked him, "Ronnie is this enough sand for you?"
With mouth wide open he nodded his approval.
Our boys had a blast! The weather was upper 50's to even 70's by the end of the week. It was breezy and stormy a day or 2, but it was so much better than OHIO in the winter! Or at least a nice break from Ohio Winter!
There was lots to do:
Football on the beach, even with Pap!
Just running and enjoying the sand!
Sand Angels, who needs snow?!
tempting the water to come a little closer.
What you can't hear from this picture is Maddie's giggles, she loved it.
Buckets and buckets of sand were filled and emptied.
Lots of shells were collected.
More buckets filled
sand castles built
shovels of sand
family time together

quiet reflection (isn't this great? I love these next 2)

football with family (notice the choppy waters)Yipee Sand!
We had a great time - more pictures to come - I promise!
