Ronnie woke up bright and early this morning, ready to start his birthday. The very first thing he asked me was, "mom can I read my Bible in your bed?" I love this little man. I am so proud to think that the very first thing he wanted/needed/did on his 9th birthday (and hopefully many more to come) was to read his Bible and have some quiet time with the Lord! So proud!
After the game, which Pap and Grandma came to watch, we all went out for lunch. One birthday tradition around here is that the kids get to pick their birthday meal. Well this year Ronnie's meal was: catfish, shrimp, watermelon and "mom's salsa". Remember he was born in Mississippi, so this makes sense. It will also make sense to you when I tell you I was not born in MS and so we went to Captain D's and let them cook for us :)
Here Ronnie is with his Birthday meal. I had to bring the watermelon and salsa with us. Despite his look in this picture, he really enjoyed it - perhaps a little too much as he was pretty full afterward!
Next it was home to open gifts! Ronnie got some neat things from Pap and Grandma, and again I didn't get a picture of them. (So sorry mom and dad, not sure why I completely forgot to get your picture today, even with the birthday boy). He got UNO Attack, a water gun (and all 3 siblings got one for self defense - that's Pap always thinking of everyone else:)), some taffy from Pap and Grandma's recent trip to New Jersey, needed clothes, a neat kids atlas, the book - Treasure Island and a Nolan Ryan hat. He also got some baseball cards.
Then it was outside for the final gift from Mom and Dad!
He was pleased!
Hopefully this won't be the only view we have of him for awhile. **On a side note, Ron and I realized as we were eating lunch today that Ronnie is halfway to 18 - wow, that is a reality check***
After some bike riding and a lot of water fights we brought out the cake. Ronnie requested a cake with a baseball diamond. Specifically the Indians field. I didn't do that great at making it Progressive Field, but I was pretty proud of how it turned out!
He was pleased too!
And it worked out perfectly that he is 9 - 9 candles, one for each player!
He even blew out 8 out of 9 in the first try! Carlos Santana took a little more air! (For those of you who are not Indians fans - Carlos is their catcher - the one candle Ronnie missed the first time)
Ronnie enjoyed his 3rd base piece, after all that is his position!
Overall he said he had a good day. He and I ended the day by playing one final game before bed of UNO Attack - it was a great pick mom, he loves it!
My little man is growing up and I am so proud of the man he is becoming!
"Thank you Jesus for Ronnie. Thank you for giving him to us and thank you for the man that he is becoming!"
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RONNIE LEE III!
